By AARON KENNEDY - akennedy@ftimes.com

Frankfort senior Colton Crum took first place in the pole vault and members of the Clinton Prairie Track and Field teams got some work in at a Hoosier State Relays qualifier hosted by McCutcheon High School, on Saturday inside of Purdue University’s Lambert Fieldhouse at West Lafayette.

Crum topped his closest competition in the pole vault competition by two-and-a-half feet, clearing the bar at 16 feet to take the win. He will compete in his fourth Hoosier State Relays on March 24 inside Gladstein Fieldhouse on the campus of Indiana University.

While Crum was the lone competitor for the Hot Dogs at the Maverick Qualifier, several members of the Clinton Prairie track and field teams got their first competition of the season in.

Gophers senior Walter Martin had the 19th-fastest time out of 55 runners in the 55-meter dash, winning the eighth heat with a time of 7.17 seconds. Martin showed his versatility by also placing 14th overall in the shot put with a toss covering 41 feet and 5.75 inches while Sam Ecenbarger finished 12th in the 3,000-meter run, and the relay team of Brody Cooke, Martin, Jacob Hamilton and Ecenbarger were 10th in the 4,000 distance medley with a time of 12:28.71.

In the girls’ 3,200, Hailey Law finished 18th with a time of 14:53.21, and Rebekah Lloyd was 16th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 10.59.

The Gophers open the outdoor season 5 p.m. April 3 when they host the Frankfort Hot Dogs.
