Taxpayers to see new tax bill

TAX BILL: This is a sample of the new Clinton County tax bill being mailed to property owners Tuesday by the Clinton Country Treasurer’s Office.

The Clinton Country Treasurer’s Office announced this week that property owners’ tax statements have changed. While the same formulas are being used and taxpayers can still remit their payments at the courthouse, by mail and online, the actual appearance of the form sent in the mail is now different.

According to Treasurer Carol Bartley, the office wants to ensure that taxpayers are aware of the tax bill’s new style and look, which she feels is an improvement over the previous statements sent.

Improvements include more information being provided on each coupon itself, she noted, and an easier to read appearance.

“The basic format is the same,” Bartley noted. “We mail one time per year. This year’s mailing date is April 10, five days earlier than the state mandated deadline of April 15.”

The office will mail 26,096 statements, Bartley said, for the 2017-pay-2018 tax bills. The total tax revenue billed will be $37,308,162.99.

Each statement contains two tear off-coupons to make payment remittance easy. One coupon is to be redeemed with the spring payment and the other is to be remitted in the fall.

The spring installment is due May 10 and the fall payment must be received by the treasurer on or before Nov 13.

Taxpayers are reminded to bring all statements to the office if they are paying in person or include the coupon if paying by mail. Other payment options, such as paying by mail or online, are included on the statement, are available online at clintonco.com or taxpayers can call 765-659-6325 if they have questions.
