Governor Eric J. Holcomb honored 44 Indiana companies Wednesday with the Governor’s Century or Half Century Business Award, recognizing each enterprise for its longevity and service to its employees, community and the state.

AAA Plumbing Inc. of Clinton County was among the Half Century Award honorees for its 72 continuous years of business.

“Today we honor Hoosier business leaders who have been creating jobs and running their businesses in Indiana for more than 50 or 100 years,” said Gov. Holcomb. “I’m excited to celebrate this year’s award recipients and extend a sincere thanks for the role they play in making Indiana one of the nation’s top destinations for business.”

AAA Plumbing is a full-service plumbing company that handles leaky faucets and installations of plumbing, drainage and water systems in commercial and residential buildings. The company, which is family-owned and operated by Ryan and Megan Woodruff, serves the Frankfort and Lebanon communities.

AAA was started in 1946 by Ryan’s grandfather, Clint Woodruff, who passed away when Ryan was young, he said. When he was a teenager Ryan began working at AAA with his dad, Dick Woodruff.

Dick and his brother Roy Woodruff assumed the business from their dad, and Ryan is now the third-generation owner.

“When I was 13, I started working with my dad and since 2000 have been working full time,” he said.

Ryan purchased the business, which once included heating, ventilation and air conditioning services, in 2014. At that time his Uncle Roy Woodruff continued providing HVAC services, and AAA Plumbing was under Ryan’s ownership.

In addition to Ryan, AAA has two other licensed plumbers, Mike Halsema and Wes Fowler, and two plumbers’ assistants, Mark Sheets and Cody Harrison, according to Office Manager Lyn Tate.

The Governor’s Century and Half Century Business Awards honor Hoosier businesses that have remained in operation for a minimum of 100 or 50 consecutive years and have also demonstrated a commitment to community service. Nearly 1,500 companies from across the state have been recognized during the 27-year history of the award.

AAA Plumbing is located at 358 W. Kyger St., where it moved about the time Ryan assumed ownership, said Tate. The phone number is 765-659-3622; aaa-plumbers.com.
