Costly 5th ends Hot Dogs' rally

KINGMA: Frankfort junior first baseman Kimee Kingma prepares to make a catch for an out at first base during Monday’s game at Tri-West High School.

The Frankfort softball team rallied from a 6-2 deficit to tie Tri-West 8-8 in the fifth inning only to allow six runs in the bottom of the frame on its way to a 14-8 loss to the Bruins on Monday at Lizton.

Morgan Dean batted 2-4 with two doubles, three RBIs and a run scored in the loss while Karleigh Bessler went 2-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored, Jordan Anderson went 1-3 with two RBIs and a run scored, and Avery Drew finished 1-2 with two runs scored. Kimee Kingma batted 1-4 with a double and a run scored while Katie Roberts went 1-4, and Chloe Roberts and Jenna Rockhold each scored a run.

Hornets bounce back with win over Vikings

The Rossville Hornets earned a 13-3, six-inning win over the North White Vikings on Monday at Monon.

Tied at 3-3 after three innings, the Hornets responded by scoring 11 unanswered runs through the next three frames to end the game early by way of the 10-run rule.

Rossville senior Cassidy Underwood batted 4-5 with a triple and three runs scored while Maggie Deboy went 2-5 with five RBIs and four runs scored, Emma Baumgardt went 3-5 with two RBIs, Cory Taylor went 3-4 with three RBIs and a run scored, and Allison Hunter went 2-4 with two runs scored. Reagan Younker batted 2-2 with two runs scored, Emma Lawson went 1-3 with an RBI, and Addison Sandifur scored a run.

Deboy struck out one and walked one while allowing one hit and no earned runs in the first two innings before Emma Baumgardt struck out five and walked three while allowing two hits and no runs in the final four innings.

The Hornets (11-8) travel to Lafayette today for a 5 p.m. game versus the Central Catholic Knights.

Gophers get road win over Patriots

The Clinton Prairie softball team earned an 8-3 win over the Bethesda Christian Patriots on Monday at Brownsburg.

Cam Cornell led the Gophers at the plate, batting 2-4 with three RBIs while Layne Snyder went 2-2 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored, and Shalynn Barnett finished 1-4 with a double and two runs scored. Kylie Burris batted 1-2 with two runs scored while Katelyn Boller went 1-2 with a run scored, Holly Loveless and Rebekah Stephens each went 1-4, Kinze Funk scored two runs, and Sophia Rominger scored a run.

Stephens got the win, striking out two while walking none and allowing seven hits and three runs before Loveless entered the pitcher’s circle to strike out one and walk none while allowing one hit and no runs in the final two frames.

Rossville beats Tipton in 5-inning rout

The Rossville Hornets scored all of their runs in the first three innings of Monday’s 12-1, five-inning win over the Blue Devils at Tipton. Kelton Saylor batted 1-3 with three RBIs and a run scored while Evan Price went 2-3 with three run scored, Corbin Beard went 1-4 with two RBIs, Dawson Jacoby went 1-2 with three runs scored, Mark Soiseth went 2-3 with an RBI, Adam Terrell went 1-2 with an RBI, Gabe Grizzle went 2-2 with a run scored, Ben Rodkey added two RBIs and a run scored, and Jesse Cornell scored a run.

Nolan Starkey got the win, striking out four and walking one while allowing three hits and no earned runs in three innings before Price struck out four and walked none while not allowing a hit or a run in the final two frames.

The Hornets (13-9) travel to Russiaville today for a 5 p.m. game versus the Western Panthers.
