Father Joseph W. Grace

Father Joseph W. Grace, 96, passed away Monday morning, July 2, 2018, at St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.

He was born in Frankfort on Nov. 28, 1921, the son of Gerald and Fern (Meroney) Grace, graduated from Frankfort High School in 1939, served in The U.S. Army during WWII from August 1942 until November 1945, graduated from St. Joseph College in Rensselaer in 1948, and attended St. Meinrad Major Seminary from September 1948 to May 1953. His priesthood ordination was at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette on May 26, 1953.

Father Grace was the pastor at St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Marion for 25 years until his retirement in July 1998 and previously was the pastor at Immaculate Conception Church in Portland. He also was a part time chaplin at the Marion V.A. from 1974 until 2016.

He was a Perpetual Member of the Frankfort American Legion, Perpetual Member Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus in the Bishop Bennett Assembly in Marion, and a Faithful Friar and chaplin of the Muncie Knights of Columbus.

Surviving are three cousins, Teresa Kronkite, Mary Ayers and Richard Price; a sister-in-law, Frances Greaney; and a nephew, Mike Grace.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 10, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Muncie. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. in Bunnell Cemetery, Frankfort.

Friends and family may call from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 10, at the church, with a Rosary at 10:30 a.m.
