Commissioners still working to raze Manson Elevator

ELEVATOR: The roof over the silos at the Manson Elevator have collapsed as the structure continues to deteriorate while the Clinton County Commissioners try to obtain a grant for its demolition.

The Manson Elevator is about 10 feet shorter after the roof collapsed over the silos at the site, located at the corner of South County Road 450 West and Manson-Colfax Road.

The Clinton County Commissioners have been working with the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs to obtain grant funding to raze the elevator in the interest of public safety and aethestics.

According to Commissioner Steve Woods, the application period should be soon approaching, and the commissioners will work with Amy Miller on the grant submission.

Last year the board set aside the $40,000 needed to match the grant when the application was submitted to OCRA for the elevator’s demolition.

In December 2017, the commissioners signed a resolution to designate the old elevator a slum/blighted spot, which was a necessary classification to qualify for the grant.

Woods said funding was tight but the county stands a good chance of receiving funding with this grant cycle given the amount of money available.
