Hot Dogs top Berries, lose to Kings

BUTTERFLY SWEEP: Frankfort's Antoni Lopez Veloz finished second in the 100 butterfly during Monday's meet against Logansport and host Lewis Cass, giving the Hot Dogs a sweep of the top two spots as Evan Jordan came in first.

Frankfort took one of two dual meets in boys swimming on Monday with sectionals on the horizon, defeating Logansport and narrowly losing to host Lewis Cass.

“The Hot Dogs made a good showing at the double meet against Logansport and Cass,” Frankfort head coach Will Robbins noted. “They beat Logansport with a score of 67 to 24, but lost to Cass with a score of 55 to our 47.”

Frankfort's Evan Jordan won the 50 freestyle in 22.12 seconds and the 100 butterfly in 58.74. Adam Haynes took the 200 IM in 2:29.16 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:12.74 for the Hot Dogs. Frankfort's 200-medley relay team of Joel Sanchez, Haynes, Antoni Lopez Veloz and Jordan also won with a time of 1:57.44.

Other top finishers for the Hot Dogs included Tyler Harness (second in the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle), Aizik Niccum (second in the 100 backstroke), Lopez Veloz (second in the 100 butterfly), Sanchez (third in the 200 IM and fourth in the 100 free), Jeven Chambers (third in the 100 breaststroke) and Sebastian Coddington (third in 1-meter diving).

Harness, Niccum, Lopez Veloz and Jordan finished second to Lewis Cass in the 200-freestyle relay losing by under a second, while Sanchez, Lopez Veloz, Haynes and Harness came in second to Lewis Cass in the 400-free relay.

The Hot Dogs finish up their regular season tonight with meets against Lafayette Harrison and host Lafayette Central Catholic starting at 6 p.m. Sectionals begin with preliminaries on Feb. 14 and the finals on Feb. 16 at Zionsville.
