Prairie pounds Lafayette Jeff

Clinton Prairie jumped on host Lafayette Jefferson early on their way to a 10-5 win in girls softball on Tuesday.

Catcher Cam Cornell starred at the plate, driving in seven runs with a single in the first, a grand slam in the fifth and a single in the sixth.

The Gophers led 3-0 after the first inning, increasing the advantage to 7-2 with four runs in the fifth on Cornell's grand slam. Prairie finished out their scoring with three runs in the sixth, with Jeff answering with three of their own in the bottom half of the inning.

Rebekah Stephens got the win for the Gophers with a seven-inning complete game, allowing seven hits and striking out six.

Molley Thomas went 4-4 for the Gophers with Layne Snyder and Shalynn Barnett also having multiple hits in Prairie's 13-hit attack.

Prairie improved to 3-3 with the win. They were to play Delphi on Wednesday, with their next games as part of their own Clinton Prairie Classic on Saturday. County teams Frankfort and Clinton Central will also play in the tournament.

Boys golf

Hot Dogs top Stars

Frankfort beat Western Boone, 185-202, in boys golf at the Frankfort Commons course on Tuesday.

Sascha Pirch led the Hot Dogs, carding a 40 for medalist honors. Other varsity scoring came from Sam Wilson (46), Drew Grismer (47) and Nolan Varner (52). Camden Cesare rounded out the varsity with a 54, which wasn't included in the team score. Luke Marsh led the Stars with a 45.

Ramsey Mitchell had the low round for the Frankfort junior varsity with a 55, as the Hot Dogs prevailed 228-232.

Girls tennis

Frankfort remains unbeaten

Frankfort improved its record to 4-0 in girls tennis, beating host Western on Tuesday.

The Hot Dogs swept both doubles with Abby Pierce and Rylee Seibert dominating No. 1 (6-0, 6-1) and Jalynn Kidwell and Rebeca Perez taking No. 2 (6-2, 6-2). Riley Isgrigg won No. 2 singles (6-0, 6-1) to secure the team victory.

Emily lost a tight two-set match at No. 1 singles, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5, with the first set going to a tiebreaker. Maddie Toney lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.

Junior varsity singles winners for Frankfort were Marilu Perez (8-1) and Karely Santos (8-3). In doubles, Raelyn Mitchell and Ella Riegle took their match (8-3) and SyAnne Lashbrook and Maria Guijosa won 8-3.

Track and field

Prairie sweeps Taylor

Clinton Prairie swept visiting Taylor in boys and girls track and field on Tuesday.

The girls beat their conference foe, 68-60, with the boys taking their side of the meet, 74-54. Nicole Burke was a part of the Gophers' winning 4x800- and 4x400-relay teams and placed second in the 400-meter dash, with Kylee Maish winning the 200-meter dash in 28.45 as well as placing in the 100-meter hurdles.

For the boys, Tony Perez was part of the winning 4x800-relay team and took second in the 1,600-meter run and 3,200-meter run. Prairie swept the throwing events with Coltyn Vandegriff winning both the discus and shot put.

Frankfort girls 1st, boys 2nd

Frankfort's girls track-and-field team edged North Montgomery, 69.5-65, to win a tri-meet at Frankfort on Tuesday, with Tri West finishing third with 29.5 points. North Montgomery returned the favor in the boys meet, squeaking out a 68-63 win over Frankfort with Tri West again third with 36 points.

North Montgomery did much of their damage in both meets in the relays, taking the 3,200 and 1,600 meters in both events and the 400 meters for the girls. The Hot Dogs had more success in the individual events.

For the girls, Nallely Alanis won the 100-meter hurdles, Carina Alanis the 1,600 run, Christina Espidio the 800, Blazia Sallee the 3,200, Kenya Garcia the discus and Ella Myers the shot put.

On the boys side, Manny Garcia won the 100-meter dash, with Hugo Hernandez taking the 1,600 and 3,200 runs and Joe Diaz winning the 400.

Frankfort next competes in the Charger Relays on Friday.
