A Kirklin man is facing multiple charges after deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of shots fired on Scotland Road on Monday.

According to the CCSO, upon their arrival, deputies learned a female and a 3-year-old toddler had fled the residence on foot. A male inside the residence was firing a rifle out the back of the residence towards the woman and child, as well as other individuals on the property. After a brief standoff, the subject surrendered peacefully and was placed into custody.

A search of the property yielded several other firearms, property damage from shots fired and a non-life threatening injury to a male on scene. The suspect was identified as Larry Abbott, 44, of Kirklin. The Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office has officially charged Abbott with multiple charges, including two counts of Level 3 felony aggravated battery with risk of death.

Lieutenant Ryan Ashlock and Indiana Conservation Officer Ryan McCauley performed rescue efforts to retrieve the woman and toddler who had taken cover in a field behind the residence. The Clinton County combined SWAT team cleared the residence for investigators to process the scene. Responding agencies included The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office, the Frankfort Police Department, the Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR), the Indiana State Police, Kirklin Volunteer Fire Department and Clinton County EMS.
