The Clinton Central School Board voted unanimously to approve Dr. Kent DeKoninck as Interim Superintendent of the corporation during the board’s meeting on Monday. The announcement comes after Al Remaly’s recent retirement announcement.
Dr. DeKoninck retired in June 2021 after serving eight years as superintendent for the Greenwood Community School Corporation and 33 years overall in public education. Prior to Greenwood, he was an associate superintendent in the Avon Community School Corporation. He also served as a middle school principal in Carmel-Clay Schools and Perry Township. He started his administrative career in Westfield-Washington Schools as a guidance director and assistant high school principal.
In 2020, Dr. DeKoninck was named as Indiana’s 2021 Superintendent of the Year by the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents. He considers this honor a testament to what happens when a school board, superintendent, and school community all work together for one common goal – the success of students.
Dr. DeKoninck earned undergraduate degrees in finance and social studies education from IPFW (Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne), a master’s degree in school counseling from IUPUI (Indiana university-Purdue University Indianapolis), and his doctorate from Indiana State University. Dr. DeKoninck currently serves as the superintendent-in-residence for the University of Indianapolis School Leadership and Management program.
Upon retirement, Dr. DeKoninck relocated to Fort Wayne to return to his childhood roots and be closer to his extended family after spending the majority of his career in the Indianapolis area. He has been married to his wife Amanda for 33 years. They have two daughters who both live in Fort Wayne as well. They have two grandchildren, Josie and Kenton.
While serving as Interim Superintendent, Dr. DeKoninck will be present in the corporation one to two days a week and available in a remote format as needed. Clinton Central School Corporation is in the early stages of a search process for a permanent superintendent with intentions of a hand-off of duties this summer.
