Deputies with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office responded to a deadly, head-on motor vehicle crash Thursday morning on Ind. 26.
Clinton County Central Dispatch received a 911 call at approximately 6:11 a.m. reporting a head-on vehicle crash involving two passenger vehicles on Ind. 26, near Co. Road 1000 W.
According to the CCSO, preliminary investigation revealed that a 2004 Saturn Vue, driven by Kiera Williams, 23, of Lafayette, had been traveling westbound on Ind. 26 and attempted to pass another vehicle. While attempting to pass, the Saturn Vue pulled into the path of a 1993 Ford Ranger, driven by Troy Trent, 41, of Bringhurst, that was traveling eastbound on Ind. 26. The two vehicles collided in the eastbound lane of travel. The Ford Ranger came to rest in a plowed field on the south side of the roadway. The Saturn Vue came to rest in the middle of Ind. 26.
Trent was pronounced dead at the scene. Williams and her passenger, Quincy Smith, 25, of Lafayette, were transported from the scene, by ambulance, to IU Health Hospital in Lafayette for treatment. Williams was later transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. The investigation is ongoing. The CCSO believes alcohol was a contributing factor in the crash. The Clinton County Coroner’s Office and the Carroll County Coroner’s Office are also continuing an investigation into the collision. Also assisting on scene were the Indiana State Police, Rossville Fire/EMS and the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office. This case will be sent to the Clinton County Prosecutor’s Office for review and formal charging.
