FCPL to present Ostler slides at Fire & Ice Festival

BY SHARON BARDONNER - sbardonner@ftimes.com

During the Fire & Ice Festival in downtown Frankfort Saturday, the Frankfort Community Public Library will be showing slides from the James Ostler collection that have been digitized as a part of the Fun in the ʼ50s project.

Come see the show anytime 12-8 p.m. The library is seeking input from community members who can identify anyone in the slides.

This project is supported by the Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act, administered by the Indiana State Library.

Some of Clinton County’s greatest historical treasures are the Ostler Slide Collection and other nostalgic photos held at the FCPL.

Thanks to the $7,075 grant, FCPL has been converting more of the Ostler slides to digital images as part of its ongoing project to preserve these photographic artifacts.

Ostler, postman and amateur photographer, used his camera to chronicle Clinton County life from the time he was hired by The Farmers Bank in 1951 until his death in 1975.
