A Frankfort man is dead after a late-night, single-car accident in rural Clinton County.
At approximately 1:06 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, deputies with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a disabled vehicle in the area of Co. Road 300 N. and Co. Road 700 E. Upon arrival, deputies located a Gray 2005 Dodge Neon, well off the roadway, crashed into a tree.
A preliminary investigation conducted by the CCSO showed Vehicle 1 was traveling eastbound on Co. Road 300 N. For an unknown reason, Vehicle 1 left the south side of the roadway, west of Co. Road 700 E. Vehicle 1 then overcorrected and went off the road to the north, where it traveled approximately 300 feet into a field and struck a tree head-on.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Caylen Reed, 21, of Frankfort. Reed was pronounced dead at the scene.
Toxicology results are pending, and the crash remains under investigation.
Wednesday’s fatal crash is the third in a span of just 10 days in Clinton County. Three people were killed in a fatal crash that involved three vehicles late on July 3 on US 412. That came just five days after a fatal crash on Ind. 75.
“We are incredibly saddened by yet another fatality in our community,” Clinton County Sheriff Rich Kelly said. “In the weeks to come, we hope to provide more answers as to what took place in this crash. Our thoughts are with the family as they deal with their loss over the next several days and weeks. We want to thank the endless support from our community to our agency and the other first responders as we continue working through the numerous scenes from the last two weeks. As always, our chaplains are available to anyone needing additional support.”
