Frankfort junior Elijah Anthony earned a regional championship at the 126-pound weight class while Clinton Central sophomore Cael Albaugh took second place at the 182-pound weight class Saturday at the Frankfort Regional Tournament. Both local wrestlers advance to Saturday’s semi-state tournament at New Castle.
Anthony improved his record at 126 pounds to 18-0 while earning Frankfort 22 team points and seventh place out of 20 teams represented at the regional. He opened his day by pinning South Vermillion’s Holden Southard 30 seconds into the opening period in the quarterfinal. Anthony then pinned Fishers’ Dylan Parodi in the semifinal to secure his place in the championship match where he earned a 5-1 decision over Carmel’s Luke Farling.
Albaugh also opened his day with a pin, winning his match over Covington’s Austin Croucher in the third period. He then pinned Zionsville senior Vincent McDonald in the second period of his semifinal match to earn a spot in the 182 championship. Albaugh battled Southmont senior Riley Woodall (21-1) in the champion match but ultimately fell in the third period. Albaugh goes into the semi-state with a 30-2 record.
Anthony and Albaugh were not the only wrestlers representing Clinton County at the regional. Clinton Prairie senior Sean Patrick had his high school wrestling career come to a close in the first round at the 285 weight class while Rossville junior Devin Miller will look ahead to next season after falling in the first round at the 152 weight class.
